I had a tiny, cheap, black sideboard that didn’t suit my new home so I popped it on EBay for an auction sale and surprisingly it sold for £60.
Next, I scoured the site for a larger piece that would suit the space better and was a bit different from your standard sideboard as they can often be pretty cumbersome, troggish bits of brown furniture( one of my fave words you’ll see me use a lot for anything crudely designed or made 🥹).
Here’s what I found!

Badly photographed? yes
No legs? Not a problem
Potential? Most def
It’s an unusual piece insomuch as it has angles cut into the facade rather than a flat front. If you wanted a bespoke piece with this feature it would cost a bit so as long as it was structurally sound it was a winner. As we picked it up we were able to check it was a sound piece. We bunged it on our Mini’s roof bars and brought it home for a makeover.
A quick clean and light sand and it was ready to be painted.
I used eggshell paints then decorator’s varnish over the top.
I used a brush on the front and a roller on the top, sides & back.
I chose a sage green for the body and a coral colour for the legs for a bit of contrast interest.
I had kept some legs from an old sofa I’d had which screwed into the existing holes and Voila!
Practical & good-looking. William Morris would approve 🧐
