Workshops 7th and 8th December ! Book here
I’m trying out a new kind of Christmas wreath for my workshops this year. In the past I’ve bought a lot of expensive cut Roses, Eucalyptus etc and stuck them into an oasis ring. It’s not difficult, gives an impressive look but is expensive and a little too manicured for the mood of the moment these days which is more about nature and rewilding so with these sentiments in mind I picked up a trug made by my Dad and scoured my garden and nearby forest for anything sculptural and hardy enough to still look good woven into a willow ring for a good 20 days.
I cut sprigs of fir for aroma & shape, ivy for its magical look and entwining abilities, laurel leaves & flowers, holly, ferns etc and even a couple of chestnuts with their spikey coats still on which I attached like baubles at the ends of ribbon hanging from the wreath.
I used a little green wire to secure sprigs here and there but also secured foliage by threading it in between the willows in the ring.
Starting from the top I followed the ring’s shape with the sturdiest foliage then once I had a full layer of this I began to thread in the more decorative berries and sprigs over the top.
I stood back and tightened up the circular shape by trimming back a few leaves and manipulating the shape of others by pulling out a little more from the ring.
I find at this point that it’s helpful to take a pic of the wreath as the different perspective allows me to see the shape clearer and informs me where adjustments are needed.
If you’d like to come along to a 3 hour workshop please check our availability.
Willow rings are inc and the workshop includes a gathering ramble, mince pies and mulled wine.
Class sizes are max 10 persons.

Update sep 2025: I refuse to do wreath making workshop anymore due to the boring nature of making wreaths!! A bit Basil Fawlty of me but hey-ho I don’t want repetition in my life anymore than necessary. Going to be doing something different this year. All suggestions welcome, apart from sticking foliage into oasis 🤪
